The Human Experience-Tori

Name: Tori Henderson

Age: 22

Where are you from/where do you live now?

I grew up in a small town just north of Nashville, TN... I spent the last four years living in East TN, but now I currently reside in Morocco, until the fall!

What is your family like?

Well, my family is somewhat unconventional. My mom lives in Oklahoma and my dad's family lives in Nashville, where I'm originally from. We've been through a lot of pain and disappointment, but throughout all of our struggles we've embraced them together. I think of my family as resilient and supportive of each other. They don't always understand me, but they chase my dreams with me, encouraging me and challenging me. I couldn't be more grateful for my fam and the things they teach about strength and courage and selflessness.

How do you spend most of your days?

Ha. Well, I really it depends on the season! Three months ago I was working on my undergrad so most of my days were spent in a classroom or library or with any of the many beautiful souls of my East TN community. In these days, I spend my days experiencing and learning about the beauty and language and culture of the people of Morocco and building friendships with the people around me... And the rest is yet to come! I don't know a lot about where I'll be a few months from now, but I am crazy expectant of what my days will look like in the next season!

Can you describe your favorite day?

My favorite and most fulfilling kind of days are the ones spent doing any or all of the following fun things: all things outside (preferably under the sun), whether that be in the mountains or on the river or in an open field; traveling, road tripping, or exploring new places and meeting new people; spending time with people (long-time friends, or new ones!) talking about the adventures of our lives, sharing new thoughts, ideas and dreams, and maybe even some food together; and doing something to empower people to be who they were designed to be!

What are you most proud of?

I think I'm just most proud of where I am in embracing my story! God's enabled me to persevere through a lot of times of darkness and questions and challenges throughout my life and I've learned how essential those seasons are to my story and to who I am. These incredibly formational parts of my story allow me to connect with other people and I'm proud of that!

What are your hopes and dreams for you and your family?

I hope and dream and pray for my family to know how strong they are, that they are inspiring, and that God adores them!

What do you spend the most time worrying about?

On the real, in these days, I find myself worrying the most about whether or not I'm "making the right choice" or "taking the 'wrong' path." Unfortunately, I worry the most about missing what God's saying and begin pursuing my vision over his.

What would you like to say to the world?

Your voice is valuable. It is powerful and it matters and it deserves to be heard!
